Since January 1996, he mainly engaged in mechanical design, R&D and manufacturing of accelerator devices, and has completed those work of SFC electrostatic deflector, SFC new vacuum chamber, NB1, NB2 buncher and other major new or renovation projects. He was responsible for the design and development of high-precision electromagnets of the major national science and engineering programs -- Lanzhou Heavy Ion Accelerator Cooling Storage Ring (HIRFL-CSR); Responsible for the mechanical design and development of "SSRF Large-scale Scientific Facility -- W14 and W8 Wiggler" of Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which won the Shanghai special prize and the national first prize; Responsible for the design and development of CR ring superconducting magnet in GSI-FAIR accelerator project of GSI and completed the design and development of proton accelerator and linear accelerator for PET-CT; And responsible for the overall mechanical design of medical heavy ion accelerator, matching design of supporting facilities and systems, and the whole project management.

He was awarded the titles of Young and Middle Aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions by the Ministry of Health and the “First Level of Leading Talents in Gansu Province”, and he was the former vice president of Gansu Principal Cancer Hospital. In his 35 years experience in tumor radiation therapy, he engaged in the clinical application of heavy ions in cancer treatment and basic research of radiation biology. He was responsible for the research on the clinical application of domestic heavy ion cancer therapy project, presided over and completed the first registered clinical trial of domestic carbon ion cancer therapy system. He has established the “Gansu Province Tumor Radiotherapy Clinical Medical Center, Heavy Ion and Other Radiation Therapy Tumor Science and Technology Innovation Team” and prepared the construction of “Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital”. He has presided over or participated in a total of 15 programs, including national major R&D programs, 973 project and projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published more than 100 papers and was awarded 1 second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, 2 first prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of Gansu Province, 2 second prizes and many other prizes.

He was responsible the establishment of the ion therapy groups of Radiotherapy Branches of Chinese Medical Association (CMA), Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) and Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA). His social participations include the Standing Member of Radiotherapy Special Committee of CMA, the Vice President of Radiotherapy Branch of CMDA and the Vice Chairman of Committee on Oncology radiotherapy of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO). He wrote the first clinical guidelines of ion therapy for cancer in China, which led and promoted the clinical application and development of this field in China.

Researcher Jian Shi has been engaged in the research on the accelerator physics and accelerator technology, focusing on the technical development and management of domestic heavy ion devices. He has been researched and developed heavy ion cancer therapy system for many years. He has taken in charge of some research topics including the research on the method of obtaining high uniformity slow extraction beam by RF-KO in the high energy heavy ion synchrotron accelerator, the study on the key technology of slow extraction in the heavy ion therapy for cancer, the study on time structure of slow extraction beam from heavy ion synchrotron accelerator, and the physical optimization design and key technology research of superconducting heavy ion accelerator. These research results fill the gap in relevant fields in China, and improve the ability of independent innovation and boost a batch of major technological innovations in medical accelerator technology.

His research interests include accelerator magnet measurement technology and superconducting magnet technology. He served as the principal of magnetic field measurement system of Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and was responsible for the construction of measurement laboratory, R&D of devices and system debugging. He has completed the magnetic field measurement of the first carbon ion therapy system in China, and participated in a bunch of major programs, such as the national major infrastructure during the 12th Five-Year Plan period and the Pilot Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He worked as a short-term visiting scholar in PSI, Switzerland, and repeatedly participated in international academic conferences on magnetic field measurement and gave oral presentations. He won the second prize of excellent papers in the 4th and 5th National Symposium on Accelerator Magnet, Power Supply and Low Temperature and Vacuum Technology. Dr. Yang has published 13 SIC/EI papers and applied for 3 invention patents.

He participated in the collimation installation of ADS superconducting linear accelerator of the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was responsible for the production of fast pulse diode magnet, fast pulse quadrupole magnet and RFQ for the intense beam heavy ion accelerator of the national major scientific and technological infrastructure during the “12th Five-Year Plan”, the production and installation of 300MeV proton accelerator magnet for space environment ground simulator. Currently, he takes in charge of the responsible for the production, installation and management of various products of the company.

Yang has developed the production standard of electromagnet in the beam line of carbon ion therapy system with others, thus making the production of such device in a more normalized, standard and lean manner. He has led the team to independently develop the manufacturing process of vacuum and beam diagnosis components of medical heavy ion accelerator. He was responsible for the manufacturing process research of CCT and DCT superconducting magnet, RFQ and superconducting niobium cavity within the company, providing a large amount of technical reserve for the miniaturization development of medical accelerator. Dr. Yang has applied for 7 invention patents.
